Citizens Working to Nurture the Quality of Life and Ensure Responsible Governance in the Township of Centre Wellington
First, a sincere Thank You to everyone who has given before. Our community is coming together again. This time it is to shoulder the load with the 100+ appellants who went to bat on behalf of everyone that signed the petition in an effort to prevent the raceway with slots being forced on our community.
Although both the township and the county have the legal right to sue their own citizens for court costs, they do not have the moral right. Those citizens, acting in good faith, stood up for democracy and for what they felt was the betterment of the community. Besides, we have already paid our own legal costs; why should we have to pay for the township and county lawyers too? The appellants are being hung out to dry.
In writing this letter seeking your support, we are following the direction received from close to 200 appellants and supporters at the meeting on July 29. The appellants voted for us to begin the fundraising process, while we continue to pressure the township and the county to back off.

People have been asking how much to pay. At present, the township and the county are demanding $86,000, plus interest. Each appellant will be on the hook for the entire amount until it is paid off in full. Some people have already contributed an amount in the four-figure range. However, many others are unable to raise that kind of money; some are even in financial difficulties.
If we all do what we can to partner with the appellants, we can put this behind us and move on to more positive things.
Council wants to send each and every citizen the message that we should not raise our voices in this community. By supporting the appellants, we'll be telling the council they are wrong.
